Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 7, 2026
1. Who we are
ZeroSpoils is a mobile app for tracking household food inventory and reducing food waste. It is operated by 11895079 Canada Inc., a Canadian corporation. In this policy, "ZeroSpoils", "we", "us", and "our" refer to 11895079 Canada Inc..
Questions about this policy? Email us at hello@zerospoils.com.
2. What data we collect
2a. Data you enter into the app
ZeroSpoils is offline-first. The food items, expiry dates, quantities, and shopping list entries you add are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers unless you opt into cloud sync (a Pro-tier feature that may be offered in future versions). If cloud sync is not enabled, your inventory data never leaves your device.
2b. Crash reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to collect crash reports automatically when the app unexpectedly closes. Crash reports include:
- Device model, OS version, and app version
- Stack traces and thread state at the time of the crash
- A randomly generated, resettable device identifier assigned by Firebase
Crash reports do not include your food inventory, personal name, or email address.
2c. Usage analytics (on by default; you can opt out)
We collect a small, fixed set of anonymised usage events — for example, that a user reached a given onboarding step, added an item, or opened the app on a given day — to understand whether the app actually works for people, and to measure things like next-day return. This is on by default, the same way crash reporting is, because we can't improve or fix what we can't see; you can turn it off at any time and we stop immediately. These events contain:
- Event name and the specific fields that event defines (e.g., "item_added" records the category and how it was entered; "onboarding_completed" records how long onboarding took)
- App version and platform (iOS or Android)
- An anonymous, resettable installation identifier — masked before it leaves your device — used only to tell repeat sessions from the same install apart (e.g., to measure whether people come back the day after installing). It is never linked to your name, email, or account.
This default only ever sends events from a fixed, predefined list — nothing outside that list is collected under this setting. We never include the names, descriptions, photos, expiry dates, or quantities of your food items, your household composition, or any other inventory content in analytics events — those stay on your device, as described in 2a, regardless of this setting. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share Anonymous Usage Data; turning it off stops new events from being recorded or sent immediately.
Separately, Pro accounts can opt into a richer, more detailed analytics export covering additional in-app activity. That feature is off by default and is described where it appears in the app; this section covers only the default, anonymous telemetry available to every user.
2d. Waitlist and email signups
If you join our waitlist at zerospoils.com, we collect your email address and, if you choose to provide it, your preferred platform (iOS/Android). We use this information solely to send you pre-launch updates and the welcome email sequence you signed up for. We do not sell or share your email address with third parties for their marketing purposes. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
2e. Remote configuration
We use Firebase Remote Config to push configuration values (such as feature flags and default settings) to the app without a full app update. This does not involve the collection of personal data.
3. How we use your data
We use the data described above to:
- Operate the app and provide the food-tracking features you use
- Diagnose and fix crashes and technical problems
- Understand which features are most useful and improve the app (with your consent)
- Send pre-launch updates and launch notifications to waitlist subscribers
We do not use your data for targeted advertising and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Third-party services
We use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:
Firebase (Google)
Crashlytics (crash reporting), Remote Config (feature flags), and Firestore, where the anonymised usage events described in 2c are stored. Data is processed by Google. See Firebase Privacy.
Loops
Email delivery for our waitlist and newsletter. Waitlist email addresses are stored in Loops. See Loops Privacy Policy.
5. Data retention
App data (inventory, shopping lists) lives on your device. Deleting the app removes all locally stored data.
Crash reports are retained by Firebase for 90 days.
Anonymised usage events (section 2c) are retained for up to 14 months, after which they are deleted. Turning off analytics in Settings stops new events from being collected; it does not retroactively delete events already sent.
Waitlist email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion by emailing hello@zerospoils.com.
6. Children's privacy
ZeroSpoils is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. To make a request, email hello@zerospoils.com. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. If the changes are material, we will notify waitlist subscribers by email. Continued use of ZeroSpoils after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
